Monroe County Community College has been awarded two Upward Bound Program grants to provide support for at-risk students from Monroe High School and Airport High School in their preparation for college.

The grants, made by the U.S. Department of Education, will total $2.5 million over five years. The program is aimed at high school students from low-income families and families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.

The goal is to increase high school and postsecondary education graduation rates.

The college will receive $500,000 each year for five years. The money will be used to serve 110 students annually.
