TEMPERANCE -- Ted Magrum, superintendent of Bedford Public Schools, is retiring at the end of the month after nearly three years as the district's top administrator.

The Bedford Board of Education on Thursday unanimously accepted the retirement notice from Mr. Magrum, who was hired in 2001 as the district's chief financial officer and was promoted from assistant superintendent for finance and operations in late 2009.

Mr. Magrum said he and his wife, Julie, will move to the Chicago area to live near their youngest son and his wife. His last day at Bedford will be Sept. 28.

Jon White, whom Mr. Magrum succeeded as superintendent, will hold that office on an interim basis for the 2012-13 school year. A search for a permanent replacement is expected to begin early next year.
