Teacher of the month: Jarrod Koskoski

Toledo Christian School

10/2/2012

“Mr. K.,” as the students call him, has an infectious, silly personality that the kids love. He has grown the band and music program at Toledo Christian by leaps and bounds since he started here in 2005. The band now has 62 students in it, which is about 1 in 3 of our high school students, or about 30% of our student population. That ratio is outstanding!

Under his direction our band has won numerous awards and has had the privilege of traveling to places like Virginia Beach and Gatlinburg, Tenn., to compete. It received straight superior ratings at the ACSI Large Group Festival in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012, were the Premier Performing Group for the ACSI Ohio River Valley Educators’ Conference in 2007, ranked superior at the Fiesta-Val Music Festival in Virginia Beach in 2007, placed 1st in the Concert Band-Heritage International Music Festival in both 2009 and 2011, with superior and excellent ratings.

Socrates said that, “Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” According to Jeff Gagle, interim co-superintendent and high school principal, “Mr. K’s passion for music and his leadership fuels his students’ internal flames that will light fires which will burn brightly throughout the next generation.”

Mr. Koskoskia holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Central Florida.
