TEMPERANCE — Two retired music teachers have won write-in campaigns to fill seats on the Bedford Board of Education. Dee Ellsworth collected 1,356 votes, and Ron Koch attracted 1,215 votes, according to the Monroe County clerk.

Mrs. Ellsworth, 54, was band director at the junior high school and taught fifth and sixth grade band before retiring in 2011 after 20 years with the Bedford district. Mr. Koch, 56, retired in June after a 25-year teaching career with the Bedford schools. He was band director for the high school, marching band, jazz band, concert band, and sixth-grade band and taught elementary strings and music appreciation.

They will fill the seats being vacated by Dale Barton and Jessica Pienta. Mr. Barton was elected to the board in 2004, and Ms. Pienta was appointed Aug. 30 to complete the term of Kim Hooper, who resigned to move from Monroe County.
