The Eastwood board of education is studying the feasibility of leasing the top floor of the former Webster Elementary to Acadia Careers LLC to run nursing programs there, superintendent Brent Welker reports.

The company operates a school in Findlay and wants to move closer to Toledo to serve students from northwest Ohio and Michigan. It would like to have the building available for its next class of 10 to 15 students that starts in February.

Getting the building ready will cost $45,000 to $50,000, and annual operating expenses are expected to be $35,000 to $40,000, but the renovations would enable the district to save the $250,000 it planned to spend refurbishing the bus garage to accommodate all-day kindergarten. Instead, the kindergarten classes could be held downstairs at the Webster building, with the tenant upstairs providing operating-cost assistance. This plan would also allow community members to use the building downstairs outside school hours.

The Webster building has been used for storage. Last month, the district held an auction of its surplus equipment such as desks, tables, and chairs.
