TEMPERANCE — Bedford Public Schools has a new chief financial officer.

Sharon Ramirez joins the district today at an annual salary of $100,000. She comes from Toledo Public Schools, where she has worked as internal controls coordinator, strategic facilities manager, and director of fiscal compliance. Before that, she was assistant business manager at Dundee Community Schools from 1986 to 2000.

Her contract expires June 30, 2015. The Board of Education hired her at a special meeting Thursday.

Ms. Ramirez, 51, said she and her husband, Frank, live in Lambertville, and “I’m very excited to be working in my home district.”

The district has been without a full-time CFO since July, 2011, when Josh Dyer resigned to take a position with the Monroe County Intermediate School District. Since then it has contracted with the Plante and Moran accounting firm for the services of Jamie Cowan, who is in Bedford two days a week.

Interim Superintendent Jon White said Ms. Cowan will continue her work as Ms. Ramirez adjusts.

Ms. Ramirez holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in organizational management from Spring Arbor University. She holds licensure in Ohio as a school treasurer and business manager, and is experienced with SunGard, the financial services software the district uses.
