Findlay events set to mark King’s birth

FINDLAY — Although the federal holiday marking the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr., is Jan. 21 this year, the University of Findlay and the Black Heritage Library and Cultural Center in Findlay are to mark the civil rights leader’s birthday on Tuesday.

A Unity Walk is to start at 6 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 109 E. Lincoln St., and continue to Dorney Plaza downtown for a prayer and reflection. Participants are to return to the chuch for a 6:45 p.m. program featuring keynote speaker Andrea King, principal of Findlay's Washington Intermediate School.

Nina Parker, founder of the Black Heritage Library, and David Emsweller, UF’s vice president for student affairs, are to speak as well.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, residents can find volunteer opportunities at a Community Volunteer Fair at Owens Community College’s Findlay campus.

The event is in conjunction with the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., day of service, which encourages Americans to take part in service projects.
