Superintendent Randy Monday, who has spent 37 years with the district as a teacher, school principal, and administrator, will retire at the end of the academic year.
Mr. Monday made his announcement at last week’s Board of Education meeting, explaining that with district finances relatively stablilized, it was an opportune time to leave.
“When I started in this position [3.5 years ago], we were looking at a possible $7.5 million deficit over the next two years, but we now have achieved a fund equity of about $2 million,” he said. “It was not easy to do for any of us because we eliminated nearly 100 positions, but I am proud that we were able to protect our curriculum offerings through this process.”
He said he was most proud of his work leading to the Knabusch Math and Science Center at Bolles Harbor.
