The Toledo Board of Education interviewed Tuesday one of three candidates for interim superintendent.

Romules Durant, assistant superintendent of Toledo Public Schools, was the first candidate to be interviewed to replace Superintendent Jerome Pecko, whose contract expires July 31. The board will hold a second round of interviews on Thursday for Oregon City Schools Superintendent Michael Zalar and Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools Superintendent Douglas Heuer.

Board President Brenda Hill said after those interviews the board could decide to hire one of the candidates, ask a candidate back for additional interviews, or decide to conduct a larger superintendent search.

Mr. Durant, a Waite High School graduate, said he's been grateful for the support he's received from the community during the process.
