TPS to reinterview 2 superintendent finalists

4/6/2013

The Toledo Board of Education will meet at noon Monday for a second round of interviews with two finalists for interim superintendent of Toledo Public Schools.

The board held interviews with candidates Douglas Heuer, Romules Durant, and Michael Zalar this week. Mr. Heuer is Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools superintendent; Mr. Durant is TPS assistant superintendent, and Mr. Zalar is superintendent of Oregon City Schools.

Board members agreed Thursday to hold a second round of interviews with Mr. Heuer and Mr. Durant.

Although the board announced it had decided to reinterview the two finalists, it did so in closed session. In a nod to that violation of Ohio’s Open Meetings Act, the board will vote Monday in open session on its selection of Mr. Durant and Mr. Heuer for additional interviews. The board could decide Monday on who will replace Superintendent Jerome Pecko, whose contract expires July 31.
