Temperance Road Elementary students have visited the elementary schools to which they’ll be transferred next year, officials report.

Kindergartners, first graders, and second graders were the first to see their new schools — either Douglas Road Elementary, Jackman Road Elementary, or Monroe Road Elementary. They were followed by students from the third and fourth grades.

Fifth-grade students will enter the junior high school next year as sixth graders.

Tours started in the cafeterias with an introductory welcome and PowerPoint presentation about each school, district spokesman Sandy Kraine said.

Afterward, they broke into small groups to visit areas such as the art, music, and health rooms, gyms, playgrounds, bus drop-offs, computer labs, and offices.

The board of education is closing Temperance Road Elementary when the school year ends as part of an effort to balance the district's budget by the end of the 2016-17 academic year.
