UT courses to be offered at Leverette Elementary

6/11/2013

A partnership between the University of Toledo and Toledo Public Schools in which university courses are held in neighborhood schools will expand next year to an additional school.

The partnership, called UT@TPS, will expand to Leverette Elementary next year. Community members will be able to take UT liberal arts and general education courses at the school, and then can apply to any major at the university after four semesters of participation.

Courses will meet between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. weekdays.

Classes are taught by university faculty, and for some students, federal Pell grants cover all tuition costs. The UT@TPS program also offers business courses at Samuel M. Jones at Gunckel Park Elementary. Students there can achieve an associate’s degree in business management technology.

Officials from TPS and UT plan to announce the expansion today at Leverette.

Information about enrolling in the program is available by calling Lynne Hamer at 419-283-8288, or online at  lynne.hamer@utoledo.edu.
