Monroe County Community College head honored at retirement

A community tribute in honor of retiring Monroe County Community College President David Nixon is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the La-Z-Boy Center Atrium on the main college campus.

The $20 per person admission will go directly to the Dave and Judy Nixon Endowment to help needy students pay for noncredit programs such as GED preparation or certificate programs. Sponsors are sought as well, and additional contributions to the endowment are encouraged that evening or by calling 734-384-4206.

Mr. Nixon is finishing his 10th year as college president on July 31. He led the college through a period of construction, record enrollments, growing endowments, new scholarships, and new programs. The college also dealt with shrinking resources and Michigan’s longest recession.
