TEMPERANCE -- The Bedford Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday night selected Lisa Beins-McCaig to join the board from among six candidates, board President Mike Smith said.

Ms. Beins-McCaig, a 1988 graduate of Bedford High School, will fill the unexpired term -- through December, 2014 -- of Shawna Smith, who resigned for health reasons.

The new member, a Temperance resident, has been an involved parent and has attended school board meetings, Mr. Smith said.

"She has a good understanding of what a board member is supposed to do," Mr. Smith said.

She will take her seat for the board's committee of the whole meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday.
