Northwood to seek levy
to build school in Nov.

Northwood Local Schools will ask voters in November for a combined property tax- earned income tax to fund construction of a new school for students in prekindergarten to 12th grade.

The school board approved the tax request 4-0 Tuesday. Jeff Dunlap was absent, said Denise Niese, board president.

If approved, the new taxes would finance the major part of a $32.1 million campus at a yet-to-be determined location. The 130,000-square-foot facility would house 922 students.

The district’s share of the cost would come to $20.8 million, with the remainder borne by the Ohio School Facilities Commission. Revenue from the taxes also would pay for the demolition of Northwood and Olney elementary schools and part of the high school.

The southern portion of the high school building containing the gym- auditorium would be preserved.

District treasurer Angel Adamski predicted the 4.9-mill property tax component of the request would generate $11.7 million over 37 years; the continuing 0.25 percent income tax would yield $225,876 per year.
