Mr. Walton shows true dedication and commitment to his students at St. Francis de Sales High School. He is a meticulous planner for his curriculum and goes above and beyond expectation for his students. Outside of school, he serves as coach for the school's chess team.

Mr. Walton's students were traditionally the No. 1 team in northwestern Ohio for several years in the Ohio test of Scholastic Achievement for first-year biology students. The program was offered by the Ohio Department of Education until 2002, when the test was discontinued. He has applied for and received a science grant at his first job for science supplies at his school in an economically depressed area. He is also the recipient of the Krecker Science Fair Development Award.

"Mark has a great enthusiasm for teaching that is manifested in his tireless planning and his marked desire for his student's success," said Eric Smola, principal.

Mr. Walton holds a bachelor's and master's of Education, both from the University of Toledo.
