Springfield levy to go on August ballot
4/30/2014The Springfield Board of Education voted today to place a 7.9-mill levy on the August election ballot.
The levy will raise about $5.4 million annually and would cost a homeowner of a $100,000 house $276.50 a year.
The board previously had a 3.9 mill levy on the ballot but pulled it after realizing it was insufficient to cover the district's deficit, which is projected to be $2.5 million next year.
After the vote, board members entered into an executive session to discuss the treasurer's contract and potential reduction of staff. The notice for this special meeting that went out to media did not mention that the board would discuss the contract or potential reductions.
