Gov. John Kasich announced Friday that he has appointed Jeffrey C. Cole, senior director of corporate communications at Dana Holding Corp., to the University of Toledo Board of Trustees.

The term for Mr. Cole runs until July 1, 2020. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from UT, and as a student was student body government president, editor in chief of the student newspaper, The Collegian, and was head manager of the men’s basketball team.

He later served in multiple roles for the university, including as assistant director and counselor in UT’s office of admissions, development officer for the college of pharmacy during UT’s first capital campaign, chairman of the professional staff council, and as an adjunct faculty member for about 20 years.

He also has served on multiple boards in the Toledo community.

“The University of Toledo is one of the greatest resources we have,” Mr. Cole said. “I am committed to do what I can to make it better by working with other organizations and businesses. It is just such an incredible resource for economic development and for producing future leaders for our region and for the U.S.”

Mr. Cole said the university faces a challenge with a search for a replacement for longtime UT President Lloyd Jacobs and other leadership positions that are vacant.

This is the second time this year Governor Kasich has appointed a member to the UT board. Both times, he chose leaders of major Toledo-area businesses.

In April, he appointed Steve Cavanaugh, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of HCR ManorCare, to the board.
