Springfield Local Schools shuffled its leadership again Wednesday, with the school board accepting the resignation of treasurer-in-waiting Mindy Ward and rehiring a treasurer who had resigned in January.

Ryan Lockwood, who had left for Vermilion Local Schools, will return to Springfield as interim treasurer July 1, then become treasurer on July 16, pending negotiations with the school board on a contract.

In January, the board had hired Pamela Barber as interim treasurer to mentor Ms. Ward, who served as assistant treasurer while she worked toward proper licensing from the state.

School board President Sherri Koback said the board couldn’t reach agreement with Ms. Ward on a contract; Ms. Ward resigned Monday.

Mr. Lockwood, whose family lives and works in the Toledo area, had wanted to return closer to home and had asked a Springfield board member for a letter of reference for a job in a different district, he said.

That inquiry led to conversations of his returning to the district.

The district also is operating with an interim superintendent. In May, former Superintendent Kathryn Hott abruptly announced she was stepping down.

Then-Assistant Superintendent Mike O’Shea took over as interim superintendent on June 1.
