The science department library at Whitmer High School has been renamed the Zielinski Science Resource Center, in honor of the late Paul Zielinski.

Mr. Zielinski was a Whitmer science teacher for 30 years and had planned to retire this month. He suffered a heart attack Dec. 26 and died Jan. 4 at age 56. A dedication ceremony was held in the hall outside the science center.

Two seniors — Patrick McCauley and Anthony Shaffer — were awarded the first Paul Zielinski Memorial Science Scholarship, worth $350 and $250 respectively. Both youths will pursue college majors involving science.
