If Springfield voters deny a school levy request next month, they can expect to see two levies on the ballot in November.

The Springfield Board of Education took the first step this evening to go to voters Nov. 4 with a request to renew the district‘‍s 1.35-mill permanent improvement levy and also to place an operating levy on the November ballot if the issue fails in an August special election.

Springfield voters will first see the 7.9-mill operating levy on Aug. 5.

That 7.9-mill levy request would raise about $5.4 million a year. The August levy proposal would cost a homeowner of a $100,000 house $276.50 a year.

The 1.35-mill levy was a five-year levy that expires in November.
