Lourdes University’s inaugural track and field season will be its only one.

Officials from the Catholic liberal arts college in Sylvania announced Thursday the program will end at the conclusion of its 2017 season. The administration discovered it “could not adequately address facilities, equipment, and the range of coaching needed to fully support” the athletes, a press release stated.

The track and field program has 16 men and 12 women student-athletes, and officials said those who choose to continue their education at Lourdes will remain on scholarship.

Head coach David Espinoza will continue his full-time position as the head coach for the Gray Wolves’ men’s and women’s cross country programs, which will begin their fifth season in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference this fall.
