At least a dozen Toledo Public Schools will join a national effort to promote biking by inviting students to pedal to class.

National Bike to School Day takes place Wednesday, with 2,524 schools across the country signed up so far to participate. The day aims to promote healthier exercise habits as well as encourage families to enjoy the fun of biking to school.

TPS officials will greet students at Larchmont Elementary at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday as they walk or bike to school.

Other schools signed up to participate in the event include Arlington, Hawkins, Byrnedale, Keyser, Elmhurst, Marshall, Garfield, Oakdale, Whittier, Harvard, and Glendale-Feilbach elementary schools, according to the National Center for Safe Routes to School, which coordinates the nationwide event.
