DTE continues to plan for new nuclear plant

MONROE DTE Energy Co. is continuing to plan for a new nuclear power plant near its Fermi 2 reactor. DTE is encouraged by federal energy policy and believes electricity demand will grow.

The company has budgeted $30 million for studying the feasibility of a new plant and the application process.

DTE spokesman John Austerberry says the company is on track to submit an application by year s end. The utility previously has said it was studying the prospects of building a nuclear power plant.
