4 regional companies get energy work funds

Four northwest Ohio companies got funding Thursday through the Ohio Third Frontier Commission for solar power and advanced energy work.

SuGanit Systems Inc. of Toledo was awarded a $2 million grant to develop a cellulose ethanol process, in conjunction with the University of Toledo, that could lead to the first commercial cellulosic ethanol plant in Ohio.

Advanced Battery Concepts LLC of Port Clinton received a $1 million grant to create long-lasting, environmentally friendly lead-acid batteries. The company is working on the project with UT and Crown Battery Manufacturing Co. in Fremont.

Walbridge-based GEM Energy Management Inc. received a $1 million loan to develop a high-tech heat and power generation system in collaboration with UT and JDRM Engineering Inc. of Sylvania.

DyeTec Solar Inc. of Toledo will receive a $950,000 grant to produce photovoltaic glass technology that allows commercial and residential windows to generate electricity. The project is being developed in collaboration with Toledo-based glass maker Pilkington North America Inc.
