NAPOLEON -- Campbell's Soup Co. said today that it will form a partnership  with a Florida company to create a commercial bio-gas power plant to generate renewable energy for use by its manufacturing operations in Napoleon.

CH4 Biogas LLC, of Atlantic Beach, Fla., will design, own, and operate the power plant, to be known as Napoleon Biogas, on a seven-acre site in Henry County directly adjacent to Campbell's operations in Harrison Township. The plant will contain an anaerobic digester that will process organic waste material from Campbell's soup, sauce, and beverage production, along with waste from area recyclers and dairy farms.

The waste will generate methane gas that will fuel turbines used to produce about 25 percent of the electricity required by the Campbell operations in Napoleon. Construction of the plant has begun and is expected to be completed by mid-2013.
