Toledo Edison customers will find it easier to use their phones to get important information about outages and their accounts, the electric utility’s parent company said Tuesday.

FirstEnergy Corp. announced it has launched a mobile Web site and free smart-phone apps for each of its 10 electric operating companies.

The apps are available for Apple iPhones and Android smart phones. Customers can use the keyword “FirstEnergy” to find the apps in the online store.

The Web site and app include a simple power outage reporting process and access to the company’s outage maps.

Customers also will be able to review and pay monthly electric bills and analyze their electric usage.

The mobile Web site is automatically enabled when customers use a smart phone to visit www.firstenergycorp.com.

FirstEnergy said it has other projects in development, including two-way text messaging and text message and email alerts for outage and bill communications.
