Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Monday that it has completed installing solar panels at 12 of its Walmart or Sam's Club stores in Ohio, including the Walmart store at 5821 W. Central Ave. in Sylvania Township.

The retailer worked with solar panel maker SolarCity Inc. to install rooftop panels that are supplying approximately 5 to 20 percent of each store’s overall electricity use, and all the installations were completed at the end of December, the company said.

“Solar power makes sense for Walmart, and it makes sense for Ohio,” said David Ozment, Walmart Senior Director of Energy. “We are committed to increasing the use of renewable energy resources, including solar panels, at our stores.”
