FREMONT — A public information meeting will be held May 15 in Fremont to inform area residents about the proposed Hayes-West Fremont 138-kilovolt transmission line project planned by American Transmission Systems Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., Akron.

The meeting will be from 4-8 p.m. in the Fremont Middle School gymnasium, 1250 North St. Officials of American Transmission will provide information on the project, and representatives from the Ohio Power Siting Board will discuss the certification process.

American Transmission expects to file an application for the project with the siting board sometimes this spring. The project is a 30-mile long, double-circuit 138-kilovolt line extending from a proposed Hayes substation to the existing West Fremont substation, and is needed to relieve stress on other transmission facilities because of the planned deactivation of 2.5 gigawatts of electric generation in FirstEnergy territory.
