Two Toledo-area agencies will offer free gas-cap testing this week and next at various locations in Lucas and Wood counties.

The Toledo Metropolitan Council of Governments and the Toledo Division of Environmental Services will provide free replacements to drivers whose cars’ gas caps leak gasoline vapor. The campaign is intended to save gas and reduce pollution.

Each test takes only a few minutes, officials said. The first of the two-hour sessions is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. today at Barney's Convenience Store, 1670 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green.

Later sessions will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the TrueNorth Shell, 4310 W. Central Ave., Toledo; 1 p.m. Thursday at the TrueNorth Shell, 5855 Weckerly Rd., Whitehouse; 2 p.m. June 18 at the Barney's, 6127 Monroe St., Sylvania; 1 p.m. June 19 at Cash Advance in the Kmart Plaza, 634 Plaza Dr., Fostoria; and at 1 p.m. June 20 at Kroger, 27386 Carronade Dr., Perrysburg Township.

Additional gas-cap tests will be offered throughout the summer. The entire schedule is posted at the tmacog.org/gascap_body.htm Web page.
