Perrysburg City Council has unanimously approved the purchase of about 1,000 48-gallon trash/recycling bins for $45,814.

Some residents requested the smaller bins after telling city officials that they didn't have enough trash and recycling to fill the 96-gallon Toters bins that were purchased by the city in April. The larger bins were distributed to about 7,000 houses.

Councilman Tom Mackin questioned the cost of the project and where the money would come from.

City Clerk David Creps explained that there was an error made with unused money from 2012 that was not accounted for from the city's general fund that will cover the majority of the cost.

The project cost almost $1.6 million when it was rolled out this spring.
