Columbia: Higher new rate for natural gas

57¢ per hundred cubic feet rate is is up from 49¢ last year at same time.

Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc. said Tuesday that its new gas rate for January will be 57 cents per hundred cubic feet of natural gas.

The rate is based on the New York Mercantile Exchange’s closing price of 44 cents per hundred cubic feet plus 13 cents for a state-approved service fee.

Its December rate was 51 cents. A year ago, the utility’s rate for January was 49 cents per hundred cubic feet.

Columbia Gas said that based on its new rate, the average residential bill for January will be $136.19. A year ago the average bill for January was $108.59.
