GARYVILLE, La. — A tornado damaged Marathon Petroleum Corp.’s Garyville complex early Wednesday, shutting a crude unit and cutting power to part of the nation’s third-largest refinery.

The unit probably will be shut until repairs are made to a cooling tower, a spokesman for the Findlay-based company said. A second crude unit at the 522,000-barrel-a-day plant, midway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans on the Mississippi River, is operating as a timeline for repairs is determined.
