Fermi 2 nuclear plant in Michigan back online after repairs

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — DTE Energy Co. says its Fermi 2 nuclear power plant in southeastern Michigan is back online after being shut down for repairs.

DTE spokesman Stephen Tait says the plant was restarted last week and synced to the system on Sunday. He says it was a “successful outage” to get the work done.

The Monroe News reports the plant was taken offline Nov. 7 to repair a main unit transformer, which is separate from the reactor. It was the second time in 2016 the plant had been taken offline for scheduled maintenance.

The Detroit-based utility’s plant is located along Lake Erie in Monroe County’s Frenchtown Township.
