Recipe contest to center on Heartland cooking

2/9/2003

Heartland cooking is the focus of a local recipe contest.

Sponsored by The Blade, TV5, and Let's Eat Toledo, The Food From the Heartland Recipe Contest is seeking original and unpublished recipes in three categories: Appetizers, salads, soups, and side dishes; entrees, and desserts.

Judging will be based on use of ingredients, which includes originality, flavor, appearance, ease of preparation, and adherence to rules (nonprofessional cooks, recipes from scratch; previously unpublished recipes; no more than 10 ingredients; 45 minutes to make; recipes should be Midwest or Heartland recipes, and contestants must be age 18 or over).

Three semi-finalists will win Calphalon cookware and compete in a cook-off April 22. The cook-off winner receives classes at the Calphalon Culinary Center in Toronto, a trip arranged by Atlas Travel, and will appear on Celebrate Food with Blade Food Editor Kathie Smith on Let's Eat Toledo.
