Ed Bachmeyer writes that he “hates having to mess with more than one pan.” Mr. Bachmeyer must be the resourceful type, because he has come up with a recipe for spaghetti that can be made in just one pot. It is simple, quick, and adaptable; he sometimes adds more ground beef, onions, or a can of mushrooms — and he also makes it with elbow macaroni — “and it has never failed.”
One-Pot Spaghetti
½ pound ground beef
¼ cup chopped onion
2 cups spaghetti sauce, meatless
1 cup water
1 can mushrooms, optional
3 ounces spaghetti, broken
Parmesan cheese, grated
Cook’s note: You can substitute elbow macaroni for spaghetti.
In a large pot over medium heat, combine the ground beef and onion and cook until the meat is brown. Add sauce, water, mushrooms (if using), and spaghetti. Bring to a boil and then simmer 20 minutes or until spaghetti is done to your liking. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving.
