Sylvania market to host musicians

Buying produce at Market on Main gets new groove

Buying local produce at the Market on Main just got a lot cooler. The weekly outdoor farmer’s market will now play host to local musicians.

Music in the Garden began last Tuesday with a performance by local ukulele player and singer Dani Nolff, a Whitmer High School graduate. Today vocalist Lauren Smith, a seventh-grader at Timberstone Junior High School, will entertain shoppers and those looking to take a musical break on a Tuesday afternoon.

“We wanted to provide entertainment that families or individuals could come and enjoy free in downtown Sylvania,” wrote Jennifer Archer, executive director for the Sylvania Community Arts Commission.

The summer concert series is part of a joint venture by the arts commission, the Sylvania Historical Village where the market takes place, and the Downtown Sylvania Association, which organizes the Market on Main.

She encourages spectators to food and beverages while taking in the art of music. The Music in the Garden will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the gazebo behind the Sylvania Heritage Center Museum, 5717 N. Main St.

Mrs. Archer said organizers are seeking more northwest Ohio artists who want to showcase their talents. Interested musicians should contact the art commission at 419-517-0118 or director@sylvaniaarts.org.

The Market on Main features local farmers, food vendors, and artisans at the  from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday through October at the Historical Village in downtown Sylvania.
