Home show offers inspiration for projects
3/9/2011The Professional Remodeler's Association holds its 2011 Home and Garden Show this weekend in SeaGate Convention Centre, 400 Jefferson Ave. More than 120 exhibitors will offer advice and display the latest in home improvements, decor, landscaping, and more. Displays by area nurseries will offer a welcome blast of floral color for these final days of winter. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 and to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Alice Walker, opens at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The story of the emotional, physical, and spiritual journey of a black woman through four decades of the early 20th century, the musical opened on Broadway in December, 2005, and ran for more than two years. Additional performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $23 to $57 from the Stranahan box office, theaterleague.com, or 800-745-3000. The Bowling Green Area Community Band, under the direction of Nick Ezzone, will hold its annual winter concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 315 South College Dr., Bowling Green. The program will have an international flavor, with music from Germany, Spain, and Italy, along with a Sousa march and Disney movie tunes. Special guest will be trumpeter Charles Saenz, a member of the music faculty at Bowling Green State University. The concert is free, and the facility is handicap accessible. Information: bgacb.org.

Huntington Center will shake, rattle, and roll this weekend when the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam hits Thursday. Among trucks that may participate are Grave Digger, El Toro Loco, Samson, Rap Attack, Full Boar, and High Maintenance. The 12-feet-tall, five-ton machines will race around a custom-designed track, smashing through or soaring over any obstacles in their way. Advance tickets for Friday are $14 and $32 for adults, $7 and $32 for children. Saturday and Sunday, advance tickets are $22 and $32 for adults, $7 and $32 for children. Tickets are $2 extra on the day of the show. Also on Saturday and Sunday, a pit party runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and audience members can get up close and personal with the drivers and trucks. The pit party is open to ticketholders for the 2 p.m. shows and costs an additional $5. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster walk-up and Internet sites (additional fees apply) and the Huntington Center box office.

Red Molly will bring its bluegrass and Ozark sounds to Grounds for Thought in Bowling Green for a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday. The trio comprises founding members Laurie MacAllister and Abbie Gardner as well as singer/songwriter Molly Venter.
