Gardeners get a second wind in autumn, and it's an ideal time to plant and transplant. Two biannual events this weekend have plenty of goods to offer.

Toledo Botanical Garden's Fall Plant Sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the greenhouses at the Bancroft Street entrance between Reynolds and Holland-Sylvania roads. A wide variety of perennials, trees, shrubs, and Oak Opening natives will be sold. For more information, call 419-546-5566.

And the free Plant Exchange takes place Saturday morning with hundreds of plants being given away from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot at 402 Broadway St. near the Amtrak station. At 9 a.m., plants may be dropped off, and at 9:15 a.m. a free program on seed saving, particularly Oak Opening natives, will be held at the adjacent Original Sub Shop.

All attendees will receive tickets for plants, and people who bring items to share will receive additional tickets. Plants and gardening paraphernalia, including houseplants, rocks, tools, books, grasses, and trees, should be weed-free and marked. For more information, call 419-243-4857.
