Hall of Famer Alcott hospitalized before final round

7/9/2001

LPGA Hall of Famer Amy Alcott spent last night at Flower Hospital after experiencing chest pains yesterday morning as she prepared for the final round of the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic.

According to sources at Highland Meadows, Alcott was feeling ill in the hours before her scheduled 10:31 tee time and sought medical attention at the course.

Her blood pressure was abnormally high and first-aid personnel advised her to go to the hospital.

LPGA officials initially reported that Alcott “did not show up” for her tee time and was therefore disqualified from the Farr.

Alcott, who did not require emergency transportation to the hospital, was admitted for observation at Flower after an evaluation by doctors. A spokesperson for the hospital said Alcott was resting comfortably yesterday evening and listed in fair condition. Lab work will be completed overnight to determine if further testing is necessary.

Alcott, 45, who has won five majors and has 29 career LPGA victories, was 1-over par and 13 shots behind leader Se Ri Pak going into yesterday's final round.
