Farr tournament raises $500,000

The Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic announced yesterday that the 2005 LPGA tournament at Highland Meadows Golf Club raised a record $500,000 for local charities.

Due to its greatest profit ever, the tournament was able to present the Greater Toledo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross with

a $75,000 donation to help defray the expenses of hurricane relief.

Alan Brass, general chairman of the 2005 Farr Classic, presented the check to Dee Talmage, chairman of the board of directors of the local Red Cross chapter, in a news conference at the Owens Corning headquarters in downtown Toledo.

The remaining $425,000 in proceeds will be divided between seven local charities Adopt America Network, Central City Ministries,

Family House, Feed Lucas County Children, Sylvania Area Family Services, Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio, and the Farr

Classic s scholarship fund.

Checks will be presented to those agencies at the tournament s annual winter meeting on Dec. 12.

It was also announced yesterday that the 2006 tournament dates will be July 13-16 with preliminary events to begin on Monday, July 10.
