Sorenstam returns to tournament

Annika Sorenstam, the LPGA's career money leader and the No. 1 ranked player in women's golf, will compete in this summer's Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, tournament director Judd Silverman announced yesterday.

Sorenstam won the 2000 Farr Classic and appeared the following year as the defending champion, but has not since played in the event.

"It's truly amazing what she has accomplished since she last played here," Silverman said. "It's exciting to have the greatest player in women's golf back in our field."

Her appearance will mark the fifth time Sorenstam has played in the Farr since her first appearance in 1994. She posted a top-20 finish in '95. When she beat Rachel Teske on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff in 2000, it was one of her 67 career victories in 12 years on the LPGA Tour. She sports career earnings of nearly $19 million.
