Farr Classic competitors do well in U.S. Open

Several individuals who competed in the recent Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic suggested that the tournament served as good preparation for the U.S. Open a week later.

As it turned out, the two tournaments — at least in terms of results atop the leaderboard — were quite similar. Five golfers who finished in the top 10 at the Farr — held July 1-4 at Highland Meadows — did the same at the U.S. Open, which wrapped up Sunday in Oakmont, Pa.

One notable exception was Paula Creamer, who won the Open after not making the cut at the Farr.

The four individuals involved in a two-hole playoff at the Farr also did well at the Open. Farr champion Na Yeon Choi took second, while Farr runners-up In-Kyung Kim, Christina Kim, and Song-Hee Kim were, in order, fourth, ninth, and 13.

Jiyai Shin took fifth at both tournaments, and Inbee Park was sixth and eighth. Also finishing in the top 20 the last two weekends were Azahara Munoz and Kristy McPherson, who were tied for 10th at the Farr and 19th at the Open.
