NWOAL roundup: Archbold needs 2 overtime periods to beat Wauseon

ARCHBOLD - Jason Rose scored four of his 10 points in the second overtime to lead Archbold to a 71-70 victory over Wauseon.

The Indians forced overtime by bouncing back from a 52-40 deficit with six minutes to play. Wauseon benefited from poor foul shooting by Archbold, which made only three of 12 free throws in the final quarter.

Wauseon then took a 63-61 lead in the overtime session, only to see Brian King sink a pair of free throws with just three seconds to play to force the second OT.

Brian Meyer led Archbold with 17 points, while King finished with 12.

Josh Andrews led all scorers with 20 points for Wauseon, while Josh Reckner had 12 and Steve Hill added 11.

BRYAN - Bryan's Doug Carpenter hit a clutch 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to tie the game, but Ottawa-Glandorf used free throws to beat the Golden Bears in overtime.

Todd Schumaker had 12 points and Matt Laudick 11 for the winner in a strange game that saw the teams tied 16-16 at halftime.

In overtime, O-G hit 7 of 10 free throws to seal the non-league victory.

Carpenter led the losers with 15 points.

METAMORA - The winning difference for the Vikings was field goal shooting as Dan Stong scored 14 points and Matt Mossing 17 to lead Evergreen to victory. The Vikings shot 52 per cent from the field to the Eagles' 33 per cent.

Evergreen opened a 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter, then held off North Central's late charge.

The Vikings fouled early and often and played the last six minutes with three starters having four fouls each.

Andy Shorts and Gregg Uland paced the Eagles with 17 points apiece.

Both teams played give-away at the free-throw line with Evergreen sinking only 7 of 18 and North Central connecting on just 10 of 27. The Eagles also had the advantage on the boards, grabbing 28 rebounds to the Vikings' 20

HAMLER - Jordan Badenhop and Tyler Meyer each scored 12 points to lead a balanced attack for the Patriots, who jumped to an 18-7 lead after one quarter.

Badenhop had eight rebounds as the Patriots outrebounded the visiting Vikings 25-16.

PETTISVILLE - The host Blackbirds had three players in double figures to overcome a 24-point night by Delta's David Archibeque.

Matt Beck and A.J. Genter each scored 15 points for Pettisville while Eric Rychener added 13 for the winners.

Andy Shindorf added 12 points for the Panthers.

MONTPELIER - Tyler Turnbull scored 15 points and Kris McDonald 14 for Hicksville, which broke open a relatively close game by outscoring the home team 29-10 in the fourth quarter.

John Buldas had 13 points and Austin Saneholtz 11 for Montpelier, which shot just 24.6 per cent from the field.

Justin Michels added 10 points for Hicksville.
