Girls basketball: Central knocks off No. 2 Magnificat

PICKERINGTON, Ohio - Central Catholic trailed by 10 after the first half, but scored 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters to overcome No. 2-ranked Rocky River Magnificat for a 65-55 victory in the All-Ohio Girls Prep Shootout yesterday.

Kelly Helvey and Brigid Wernert scored 14 apiece and Nicole Brown added 12 for the Irish (11-1).

Mary Fox led Magnificat (10-2) with 22.

Central will play Cincinnati Colerain today.


COL. BISHOP HARTLEY 41, EASTWOOD 39

PICKERINGTON, Ohio - Stephanie Feyes hit an 18-foot jumper with one second left to lift No. 4-ranked Bishop Hartley over the Eagles in the All-Ohio Girls Prep Shootout.

Brianna Hartman and Stacey Weiland scored 9 each for Eastwood (9-2), which was held scoreless in the second quarter.


NOTRE DAME 78, LIBBEY 63

Shayla Bell (22), Stephanie Hunter (16), Jackie Saelzler (16) and Rachel Hafner (10) hit double figures for the Eagles (10-2, 5-0 City), who outscored the Cowboys 25-6 at the free-throw line.

Rhonda Willis scored 23 and Mattie Mays 20 for Libbey (1-8, 0-5).


SCOTT 67, CLEVELAND JFK 50

Taria Blanchard scored 24 points as Scott outscored JFK 39-25 in the second half at Waite.

Krystal Suddeth added 16 points and Samia Dixon 10 for Scott (4-5).

JFK fell to 9-3.


WAITE 55, COLUMBUS EAST 44

The Indians took advantage of a 14-6 second-quarter edge for the victory as Crystal Dixon paced Waite (3-8) with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sarah Morales added 11 points.

Champale McCaskill led visiting East (2-8) with 18 points.


SOUTHVIEW 52, ROSSFORD 30

Kelly Heil threw in 23 points for Southview (8-2, 4-2 NLL), which took control with a 20-8 second quarter.

Alison Zemanski scored 13 for Rossford (1-11, 0-6).


OTTAWA HILLS 58, TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 40

Lee Woodward (19 points), Megan Lahner (17) and Lauren Kruse (11) hit double figures for the Green Bears (9-1, 5-0 TAAC).

Laura Markwood scored 24 and Ashley Futrell 10 for Toledo Christian (1-6, 1-1).


MAUMEE VALLEY 55, LIMA TEMPLE 35

LIMA - Kathy Shelley scored 18, Megan Sieberg 16 and Laquelle Brown 12 for the Hawks (10-1), who led 30-12 at the half.


EDGERTON 61, STRITCH 22

Heather Balogh knocked in 22 points and Kara Hug added 10 for the Bulldogs (8-2), who led 34 13 at the half.


FINDLAY 66, LORAIN SOUTHVIEW 54

FINDLAY - Lindy Hatfield scored a game-high 22 points to lead Findlay (10-1, 7-0 GLL). Lauren Hull added 12.


CLAY 56, LORAIN ADMIRAL KING 46

Melissa Johnson scored 18 points and Kristen Crawford added 12 and Kate Achter 11 for the host Eagles (7-5).

Netra Williams scored 12 for Admirals (7-5).


FREMONT ROSS 48, WHITMER 36

FREMONT - Alison Decker scored 14 points and Sashay Price and Taneshia McKinstry added nine each as the Little Giants (9-1, 6-1 GLL) opened a 19-10 halftime lead and coasted.

Miranda Gunn had 10 for Whitmer (3-8, 3-4), which committed 24 turnovers to Ross's 14.


WOODMORE 55, OTSEGO 30

ELMORE - The Wildcats shot just 28 percent from the field but grabbed a season-high 61 rebounds.

Abby Richard led Woodmore (8-4, 4-3 SLL) with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Catie Lavigne added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Ashley Perkins had 10 points.

Andrea Shoup paced the Knights (4-6, 1-4) with 11 points.


LIBERTY CENTER 72, BRYAN 68

BRYAN - Regina Keller scored 21 points, Megan Wachtman 15 and Kathryn Davis 13 for Liberty Center (9-2, 3-1 NWOAL).

Thea Christ scored 29 points for Bryan (4-5, 0-2).


EVERGREEN 63, SWANTON 38

METAMORA - Brittaney Miller tallied 25 points and Kendra Damman added 15 for the Vikings (10-1).

Hurst led Swanton (3-7) with 14 points.

ELMORE - Abby Richard scored 15 points and pulled down 14 boards for Woodmore (8-4, 4-3). Wendy Reiner grabbed 19 rebounds.
