Suburban Lakes roundup: Happy birthday for Oestreich

BLOOMDALE - Elmwood's 6-1 senior Brian Oestreich celebrated his 18th birthday by scoring 49 points as the Royals beat Gibsonburg 91-70 last night

Oestreich broke the school record of 42 points set by his coach, Doug Reynolds, in 1974.

Oestriech's total included 10 2-pointers, 5 3-pointers, and 10 free throws. He is the leading scorer in the SLL, averaging 28.2 points a game.

Matt Custer added 18 points for the Royals (11-6, 8-4)

Gibsonburg (3-14, 2-9) was paced by B.J. Ernsthausen with 21 points. Nick Walby added 17.

Woodmore 75, Lakota 46

ELMORE - Scott Bergman had 14 points and five rebounds, A.J. Schlea 14 points and five steals, Andrew Greenley 13 points and 10 assists and Dan Lieske 11 points and eight rebounds for Woodmore.

All four are juniors. There are no seniors on the Wildcats roster.

The Wildcats are 8-9 overall but 8-4 in the league.

Todd Schumm led Lakota (2-15, 0-12) with 13 points and Matt Graber added 11.

Genoa 62, Lake 50

MILLBURY - Mark Belkofer hit a game-high 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Comets who opened an 11-2 lead and never looked back.

Genoa (5-12, 4-8) outscored Lake 22-14 in the first quarter.

Wes Blank led Lake (7-10, 5-7) with 14 and Scott Conley had 12.
