Northern Lakes roundup: Maumee defeats Generals

12/7/2002

Visiting Anthony Wayne made 15 of 20 free throws in the fourth quarter last night, but Maumee poured in 22 of 24 and pulled away to a 90-76 victory in the Northern Lakes League opener for both teams.

``It turned into a parade to the foul line after we went up by about eight with six minutes to go,'' said Maumee coach Jim Robinson, who notched victory No. 431. ``That's not my type of game, but it turned out all right. Normally we don't score that many points in two games.''

Josh Arthur led the 3-0 Panthers with 24 points; teammate Jon Say made 13 of 16 free throws and added 21 points.

Joe McVicker paced the Generals (1-1) with 19 points, while teammates Brad Wimmer, Mark Rairigh and Josh Bowers added 17, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Maumee also had four in double scoring figures as Adam Russell added 15 and J.J. Howard chipped in with 13.

BOWLING GREEN - Justin Rex tallied 20 points, pacing four Bobcats in double digits as Bowling Green won its first home game under new head coach Von Graffin.

Eric Radabaugh netted 12 points and Michael Graffin and Chris Hanna scored 11 each for BG (1-1, 1-0). Hanna also had nine assists.

Mike Dhondt led the Yellow Jackets (0-2, 0-1), who battled back from a 9-0 deficit at the start, with a game-high 23 points, and teammate Greg Sattler added 13.

It was a one-point game going into the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats punished Perrysburg with a 26-17 final period.

Marquis Hayes and Matt Taylor scored 17 and 10 points, respectively, as the Blue Devils (1-1, 1-0) pulled away from an 18-all halftime tie.

Springfield didn't shoot a free throw in the first half, but made 14 of its 17 second-half foul shots while the Bulldogs (1-1, 0-1) made five of eight for the game.

Kyle Ingraham led Rossford with 17 points and Darren Paige added 13 for the Bulldogs.

A power outage Thursday night at Rossford forced a postponement of the Rossford-Northview girls game.

An accident in the neighborhood resulted in the school losing its electricity with a few minutes remaining in the junior varsity game. A decision was made to reschedule only the varsity contest at Rossford for Jan. 6 at 5 p.m.
