Big quarter sparks Monclova Christian

Monclova Christian outscored visiting Cleveland Christian 15-2 in the second quarter on the way to a 59-28 victory in the Thunder Classic.
Matt Velazquez scored a game-high 20 points to lead Monclova Christian (4-3), while Derek Merrin had 15 and Brian Boes added 10.
Monclova Christian advances to the tournament's championship game against Cleveland Horizon today.
Mark Borer scored 15 points and unbeaten Tiffin Calvert outscored Liberty-Benton 20-6 at the foul line in a 47-42 victory. Matt Engler scored 18 points as Port Clinton topped Edison 51-28. Russell Smith scored 12 as Margaretta topped Oak Harbor 45-37. Dave Bensch had 14 for Oak Harbor. Adam Morris led three scorers in double figures with 13 points and Dearborn Divine Child pulled away in the second half for a 46-31 win over Monroe St. Mary-Catholic Central. Greg Brittain paced the Falcons (2-3) with nine.
