Girls basketball roundup: Northview tops Bowsher

Nikki Smith scored 20 points and went over 1,000 for her career as Northview defeated Bowsher 60-53 in a Division I sectional final at Central Catholic last night.

Smith, a junior, now has 1,008 for her career.

Julia Dempster added 16 and Brooke Amstutz had 13 for the Wildcats (21-1), who sank 26 of 30 free throws.

Jazlyn Davis poured in 28 points and Kamesha Hairston had 13 for the Rebels (13-8).

Northview advances to play Scott in a district semifinal.

SCOTT 61, ST. URSULA 57

Mattie Mays tossed in 24 points and Krystle Sudduth added 17 for the Bulldogs (15-5), who led 31-25 at the half.

Ashley Burgin scored 24, Jenna Blosser 13 and Kate Lohner 11 for the Arrows (11-10), who fell despite making 25 free throws to Scott's 14.

START 69, WOODWARD 59

Brooke Walker tallied 23 points, Shanell Manees had 21 and Che Rogers scored 14 for the Spartans (16-4), who rallied from a 27-24 halftime deficit to win a Division I sectional final at Clay.

Brittany Stenson scored 16, Markeisha Hudgins chipped in 13 and Tamera Jones 10 for the Polar Bears (10-10).

Woodward hit just seven of its 22 free throws; Start was 5-of-12.

Start advances to face the winner between top-ranked Central Catholic and Whitmer. That game was postponed until 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

PERRYSBURG 62, WAPAKONETA 36

FINDLAY - Laura Markwood scored 26 points as Perrysburg rolled at Liberty-Benton, where the second game between Anthony Wayne and Celina was postponed until today at 3 p.m.

Markwood hit 8 of 9 foul shots as the Yellow Jackets (19-3) connected on 18 of 27 from the line.

Jenny Langevin added 12 points and Allison Vallas had nine.

WAUSEON 44, NAPOLEON 39

HAMLER - Kelly Stechschulte scored 14 points to lead the Indians (18-3), who scored 19 in the fourth quarter to gain control.

Kayla Mengerink tallied 10 for the Wildcats (8-14).

PATRICK HENRY 60, COLUMBUS GROVE 36

FINDLAY - Ashley Smith and Karyn Creager scored 12 points each and Nicole Meyer had 10 for the Patriots (18-3), who pulled away from an 18-18 tie at the half.

Brittany Begg scored 12 for the Bulldogs (11-11).

LIMA CC 47, LIBERTY-BENTON 33

FINDLAY - Sarah Pitson paced Lima Central Catholic (16-5) with 20 points. Katie Butler had 22 for Liberty-Benton (18-4).

HICKSVILLE 42, EDGERTON 41

BRYAN - Melissa Headley scored 16 and Hicksville (14-7) advanced despite making no points from the foul line (0 for 2).

Headley made four of the team's eight treys. The Aces hit just nine 2-pointers.

Chivonn Keppeler scored 19 for Edgerton (11-11).

EDON 41, HILLTOP 33

BRYAN - Junior Amber Faulhaber scored 13 points for Edon (17-4) and got help from seven teammates.

Taysha Short scored 15 and Amanda Schaffner had 11 for Hilltop (10-12), but just three others accounted for the remaining seven points.
