Eastwood, Elmwood runners prevail

FREMONT - The Eastwood boys and Huron girls won Division II district cross country titles at Terra Community College.

Eastwood's boys totaled 91 points with Bellevue a close second at 96 and Fostoria third with 99. Rossford was the fourth team to earn a spot in next week's regional with 109 points.

Eastwood's Jimmy O'Brien crossed the line first in 16:35.5.

In the girls race, where six teams advance, Huron totaled 103 to edge Maumee at 112.

Eastwood was next with 116, followed by Bellevue at 130, Tiffin Columbian at 137 and Oak Harbor at 143.

The winner of the girls race was Otsego's Julia Weisenborn in 19:46.4. Anna Leck of Maumee was second in 20:19.

Also at Terra in Division III, Elmwood and Old Fort won boys titles and Liberty-Benton and Hopewell-Loudon were girls champs.

SCOTT 19, WOODWARD 0

Scott quarterback Rahsan Wilson ran a yard for one touchdown and passed 17 yards to Richard Isaiah for another to pace Scott.

Romen Walton scored the Bulldogs' other TD on a 12-yard run.

PATRICK HENRY 31, JACKSON 27

JACKSON, Ohio - Trent Meyer hit 18 of 35 passes for 342 yards, tying a school record for passing yards in a game, and Marc Krauss caught 9 passes for 224 yards, a school-record for receiving yards in a game, as Patrick Henry improved to 8-1.

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 37, CARDINAL STRITCH 0

Ryan Schunk ran for two TDs and Toledo Christian scored two TDs on defense - an 18-yard fumble recovery return by Ben Holt and a 77-yard interception return by Mark Rossol.

COLUMBUS - St. John's Jesuit's Chris Flynn shot a 76 yesterday on the Scarlet Course to tie for seventh in the Division I state golf championship with a two-day total of 155.

Ryan Gutkowski of Copley shot 73-72 to win medal honors and led his team to a championship with 627 strokes. Findlay was 10th at 661 and Bowling Green 12th in the 12-team field at 669.

Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame won the girls championship on the Gray course with 658 strokes. St. Ursula finished eight at 717.

The medalist was Marysville's Carly Truitt with a 74-75-149.

COLUMBUS - Upper Arlington sophomore Kirsten Flower defeated classmate Christine Johnston 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 yesterday to win the Division I singles title at the girls state tennis tournament.
